Rachel's March Update

Hello everybody.

I'm afraid I've still got nothing to show this month. Fate is working against me and it's almost as if I doomed never to stitch this chart.

I'm very annoyed and upset at the moment because I put my faith in somebody to create a piece of hand-dyed fabric suitable for the background of Scarlet Macaw Preening and she failed to deliver on so many levels. Emails indicated that she would try to recreate the background colours but I ended up with a piece of fabric more of a salmony-orange colour with a tiny hint of purplish-grey. I am not impressed and extremely disappointed.

So..... I'm now going to dye my own piece of fabric. I've ordered a meter of cream Zweigart aida and five bottles of Rit dye liquid in cocoa brown, dark green, cherry red, tangerine and golden yellow. I'm going to spray or perhaps even daub theses onto the aida to create my own background. I've booked next weekend to do it so hopefully I'll be able to post the results soon after.

In the meantime I shall enjoy reading about your progress for March and hope you've had more success than me.

Love and hugs from a very unhappy
Rachel x

  1. Oh no! That's so disappointing. Here's hoping you can create exactly what you want to.

  2. Aww I'm sorry good luck with your dyeing. If you want a mottled look I would try using a low water immersion technique. Keep in mind if you mix the red and green you'll get more brown. The sponging idea I think would work great though. I'm excited to see what you come up with!

  4. I am sorry to hear that your fabric wasn't what you were looking for. You're very brave to try your own but I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

  6. Oh no, I remember what high hopes you had for that fabric and then to be disappointed like that is just awful :( I hope you'll be successfull with dying your own fabric to yur satisfaction :) On another note, have you looked at sparklies fabrics yet? From what I can see their Tiger Lily (http://sparklies.co.uk/index.php?cPath=22_35_105) seems to be quite close to your background, although it doesn't have the gradient of course...

  7. Sorry about the delays. This is such a beautiful chart, it deserves to be done right so hang in there until you feel like everything is perfect.

  8. I'm so sorry, Rachel :-( I know that's frustrating; I've had similar problems trying to find an acceptable color fabric for a chart I'm stitching for my daughter. Good luck with dyeing your fabric!
