Susan' August Check-in

I love it when check-in days fall on my compressed day, as I can actually be on time.  Compressed day you ask?  In a two week period I work 6 9-hour days, one 8-hour day and have one day off.  Lots of folks work 4 10-hour days and have two days off.  While that would be nice, with my commute (2-1/2 hours each way) I can't figure out where to add another hour into the day and not end up sick from exhaustion. (and because I couldn't get my pictures to come up, I couldn't add it to the post yesterday, so I'm a day later but didn't want to rewrite this).

Let's see the question of the month answer.  The first piece I ever cross stitched was when I was 5 or 6, so 48 or so years ago.  It was a stamped tea towel set for my Grandmother.  There was a rooster on one and a hen with chicks on the other. My first ever counted cross stitch piece was a Santa and it was done in 1982 or 1983.  I'm not sure what happened to him.  I am definitely not the same as I was then - I had and raised a son, cared for one husband during his battle with cancer, remarried after being a widow for 7 years, moved and changed jobs numerous times.  Every happening changed the path I was on and changed me.  Stitching wise I am.  Not that I like the same things, but I am still very detail oriented and can spend hours lost in the colors.

I have almost finished half of page one of Shakespearean Fantasy.  The pages on row one are mostly black so very boring (see color statement above).  I have been listening to audio books while stitching them and it helps the time pass quickly.

August--a little progress

Boy it feels like August was just 7 days long!  This year is just speeding by!  I haven't made as much progress on my BAP but there is always next year.  I have accomplished a lot of stitching just not on this piece.

I managed to get one roof stitched, a window, door, and a little of the siding on the small house and that is it.  Ugh.  I already have a request from a sister to stitch something for her DIL birthday so will start on that Monday.  This weekend will be spent babysitting with our youngest grandson who is almost 14 months.  Busy walking and getting into things!  Should keep me on my toes!

I also entered 9 projects in our local fair.  I had 7 blues, 2 reds, and a reserve champion.  Very happy with the results.  There were even fewer entries this year.  I sure wish there was a way to get people to enter.  But I realize it is a hassel to drop them off during the work week and pick them up on a Friday morning.

Ready Set Post...

August posting is open. I have not stitched on tiger this month I was too busy working my butt off and now am leaving for a much needed vacation on Saturday. I can't wait!! I did do some other stitching that you can see on my cross stitch blog if you want too. I had fun with my finish of casting a spell. I also won 2nd and 3rd place in my towns little fair.

August Theme

Hmmm--that was so long ago!!!  Like 1975 maybe.  I really don't remember my first piece--I gave them away as gifts--  most were ornaments.  I was working evenings and nights (RN) with a gal that was a crafter--she did so many things.  She was doing cross stitch and I had never seen it.  I had started doing a little embroidery (using all 6 threads--gasp).  She got me started on the right path--even gave me some starter lessons in knitting and crocheting.  One of my first pieces was a rabbit in an apron and it had a saying about grandma's love--I gave it to my MIL. I will have to take a picture of it on our visit this week.   She still has it on display. All of my early stitching was on aida or hardanger (loved 22 count).  Here are a couple of first projects that I did.  I don't have them hung anymore but had them on my wall for years!  I used wooden embroidery hoops to display.  I need to take them out and make them into ornaments for my tree.  (And give them a good cleaning!) My first big projects were for my mother and MIL. They each got quilt pictures by Paula Vaughn.  Loved doing them but boy was that a challenge with all the color changes for the quilts (LOL--that is a piece of cake now).  I really was pleased with myself when those were done!

Nope--I think my stitching has taught me patience, given me relaxation, and feelings of accomplishment.  I look at others needlework projects, especially in museums and think of the hours that were put into their pieces.  I have great admiration for all those young 8, 9 , 10  etc year olds that stitched samplers.  In awe of them.

Mine was a small baby train sampler

 As a cross stitcher I find I am addicted to colour. When someone asks me my favorite colour it could be purple. No wait, blue. Nope orange.

I love all the colours. 

2. Since you have been a cross stitcher are you the same or am I one in a million?

July - Serenity Harbor Update

Still filling in the water on Serenity Harbor! I'm now about two months behind (this is still section 5). But hey, slow progress is still progress. Someday I'll get there!

Paradise in July

Well I think I'm averaging about a page a month.  This month I have a bit less than a page but I've been focusing a lot on getting ready to move.  We have to be out of our apartment next week.  We're probably getting one of those pods so they'll move the pod across the country and so were staying in hotels for a week or two until we secure jobs.  Then we're driving across the country to move ourselves.  The bad part is my cross stitch frame is too big to stitch in the car lol.  I may get a hoop or qsnap just for the car ride :).

Stitch count wise it's over a page since I'm stitching into the next but I still have about 100 stitches left in the official page.  Hopefully the car ride will give me lots of progress for next months post :D.

Susan's July Update

WHEW!! I'm in time for the July check-in.  Not a ton of progress, but every X in is one closer to done.

Hmmm, doesn't look like much does it? BUT that black rectangle is 1/4 of page one. I think if I took all the stitches and mashed them together, I would have a full page done!  Yeah, that thought really doesn't make me feel any better.  I am thinking of adding this to my regular rotation as the once-every-other-Friday really isn't working.

Sarah's July update

I have very little progress to share, but the good news is that I'm stitching again! In fact still stitching for a couple more hours today.

All of these projects amaze me. I know we have all had our times of no-progress but it is just a hobby after all LOL. No need to stress. Everyone is doing a great job and we WILL eventually get them all done.

Leonore's July Dark Force Update

There doesn't appear to be a theme for this month, so let's jump right into everybody's favourite - stitching progress!

This month, I finished page 4 and also the (only two columns wide) page 5, which brought me to a massive mile stone: My first row finish!

24.000 stitches in, this is actually the goal I had set myself to reach this year, and I am very pleased to have already reached it. From now on, I'm going to take it really slow, and I might not have any progress to show for a few months at all - there are a few dead lined projects I need to focus on first. I'll try so that this won't be the last that you see of DF this year!

July Update==Not!

I did not stitching this month on His Eye is on the Sparrow.  I have too many irons in the fire.  Had 2 wedding pieces to finish and worked on one of the parts of  Sheperd'sBush Fold (Needle Roll). Here are pictures of the projects I finished and had framed. Our county fair is next week so have been busy finishing up some other pieces for it.
